Drums

Jason Montgomery
Schedule: Mon – Sun
My musical journey began with my instructor Barney Lane, who was my Cub Scout leader, and the percussion instructor for Burbank High School. I began taking private lessons with him in middle school in the late 90’s, and had my first live performances with the Luther Burbank MIddle School Jazz and Concert bands. As a High School sophomore I became Drum Captain, and during this time I played in every musical group possible including the drumline, marching band, jazz band, concert band, wind ensemble, the school choir, and with various local rock and punk bands.

After high school I was able to do a lot of playing in a professional capacity. I was the drummer for many musicals and acted as the drummer for the John Burroughs High School show choirs, which were a good training ground for fast-paced professional gigs spanning lots of musical genres. Over the next 10+ years I also played in many different rock bands, 80’s bands, jazz groups, country bands and pop bands playing original and cover music. This afforded me the opportunity to travel all over the United States and to Europe playing gigs.

Later on I found a passion beyond just playing and performing. I have spent a lot of my adult life renovating and rehabilitating vintage drums, as well as building my own drums and percussion. Since 2020 a lot of my focus has been on piecing together a recording studio and learning the skills necessary to record and engineer music and acting as drum tech for various projects.
Justin currently works as a teacher and performer in the Los Angeles area, and can’t wait to share his passion for art and his knowledge of the music industry and music performance with the world.

I like drums old and new, though I am particularly partial to old Ludwig and Slingerland drums. I primarily play TRX cymbals.
